Once upon a time, 400 million years ago, Florida abutted Ireland, Morocco, and Mongolia, near the South Pole. The world, with its molten core, breaths beneath our feet in the deepest of deep time. In our current moment of pandemic and global climate change, our Anthropecene Age, what are we to do but play, and sing, and laugh, and praise?
Ghostbird Theatre Company has brought together a set of international artists, performers, musicians, and writers, who during these two years of isolation and recalibration, have taken stock of themselves, their place, their health, and their spiritual priorities. In this collaboration, they each committed themselves to doing something entirely new.
And together, we have built a standing installation, which you may visit for free at the Wasmer Art Gallery of Florida Gulf Coast University, where you may quietly, independently find your own time, own connections with this work, this time, and this place.
And we have mounted a set of performances, where with you, we enter the same spaces, moving, singing, speaking, alone and together on this current, drifting, wayward island.
This play is supported, in part, by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Florida Division of Arts & Culture, and the City of Fort Myers. The installation and play are in partnership with the Wasmer Art Gallery of Florida Gulf Coast University.
